Several groups of works treat historical or art-historical subjects:

The paintings of Looking Up deal with gothic vaults of mostly Austrian churches and are executed with the earth which they are (more or less) built upon. Montadamo is dedicated to 15th and 16th century frescoes in a small Italian village church.

In his Transformations of the Göss Vestments, the artist works on a set of richly embroidered medieval textiles from the monastery of Goess, situated in the Austrian province of Styria. But of course, there are also works dealing with landscapes in a closer sense, based on subjects such as views on a mountain ranges or vineyards, skies seen through treetops, light and shadow on the walls of a ruin in a forest or curiously shaped stones on a roadside. With all of this, it is still difficult to place Bernhard Münzenmayer’s art in categories like “representational” or “abstract”. The manners he treats his subjects are to varied for that.
